More details
For decades people with disability in Ireland have been coping with a system that does not guarantee them basic services and supports. The Irish government (the Fianna Fail and Progressive Democrat coalition parties)have recently introduced deeply unpopular legislation (The Disability Act 2005 and The Education of Persons with Special Educational Needs Act 2004)designed to ensure that no such rights are possible. This flies in the face of everything that the Irish disability lobby has been fighting for. In response to the governments legislation, the Disability Election Pledge Alliance has been formed with a view to challenging the legislation and asking other members of the community to join with the disability lobby in making this issue a top priority at the next election. We are asking you to vote only for a party that will pledge to guarantee the five core recommendations that disability groups had sought before this terrible legislation was introduced.
