The main focus of our project will be to enlighten people about the health issues associated with McDonald’s. McDonald’s uses unhealthy ingredients to make unhealthy food that causes serious problems, including obesity and heart disease. There are few “healthy” selections on the McDonald’s menu. The healthy choices include only a few of the salads (as long as they do not include any chicken or dressing) and a fruit and yogurt parfait. Even the government is recognizing that McDonald’s is not fit for human consumption. The Surgeon General, David Satcher, is calling for a “call to action” against fast food chains such as McDonald’s. “A typical [McDonald’s] Value Meal (Big Mac, medium fries, medium Coke) delivers about 1,200 calories and three-quarters of a day’s quota of saturated fat.”

1. Why only for a month? How is a month a significant period of time? If McDonalds is so unhealthy, why not stop eating it for a year?
2. The people who are most likely to give up McDonalds for a month are probably people who don't eat their food very often anyway. How can you be sure that the people who actually would benefit from cutting down on their intake of McDonalds products are signing this pledge?
3. Why only McDonalds? Surely every fast food chain has the same problems.
4. How do you justify stating that the unhealthy food made and sold by McDonalds is the cause of obesity and heart disease? Eating unhealthy food most likely contributes to such problems, but causation is much more complicated.
