This is a good initiative to tackle some portion of the so called disease Castesim. Inspite of being a SC guys with always being the number one throughout my life without taking any quota advantages I feel like aloof in the Hindu Caste System. Because at the end whosoever is there He/She asks "Bete aapka Caste kya hai". That is why I myslelf feel that this kind of initiative will help the people to slightly come forward to avoid discrimination based on Caste System. Infact I ahve already done so and I haved removed my surname long ago in Class Xth.

Nice to know that some peoples do think of eradicating the most dangerous disease on the planet... !! Infact everybody knows it, the thing is alike smoking or being drugaddicted, we hope to make an end but it keeps weakining from inside.., people can speak a lot and can give a non-ending spech on religions, again its true that no religion opposes other ethically, so why so much we do have to think of religions.

please do stop it....
donot speak a lot, do a little if u can..!!
do not bargain with the GOD, have faith on, whom ever U like....!!
do not split human, do love the mankind... !!!
race, caste, religions are to keep humans in an spritual way, do respect what ever u R in, do not spoil them for your benifit, do make the world a healthy place for all. do the best for mankind, make a peaceful world for your childrens....... !!! thats it....

Sonia Lafif, I am not making any other group in this crowd of so many groups we witness at present. I am just trying to avoid the discrimination people face by the name of these groups. Can you please read the second comment made by me in this column. I hope You will understand me and will support me. And I m not forcing anyone to be different, I m just saying, there should be the option of being different, I m talking of freedom of believing a ideology(as you have done), and not being enforced to accept. As Ipsita has written in the 4th comment in this row "Let our attitude speak, not our surname."

You are making yet another division in the human race.

I must say the first name of a person can also determine the religion, and/or origin of a person.

Humans should live to embrace difference not ignore it. we are naturally different colours and our belifes build up with experience, knowledge and tolerance.

I am a Muslim, before I belived in Islam, I reserach each religion, I believe in God and the major religions to be correct, but for that time and those people. I believe in the sacred books of all religion but the last and final religious book to be revealed is the Quran. Also I believe, if any one researchs into the religion of Islam accurately, they will embrace it.

Lastly every one is different and will be different no matter how much we try. We do not need to change the difference we need to embrace it. We have different jobs, some one is a doctor, and some one is a teacher; we eat differenet foods according to our tastes, and wear different clothes depending on our style... we live in different countries.......we have so many differences and this fact will remain the same......we just need to celebrate difference!

I can't sign the pledge, but I certainly support the reasoning behind it. There's far too much judgmental behaviour in this world. We have something similar to the caste system here in the UK, we allow derogatory labels like Chav to pass unchallenged. Not good.

Hi Folks,
First qustion "Whaz wrong in adding u r surname? Don't-u like to keep u r father's name or family's name at the end of u r name!! AGAIN, Hardly anybody knows about the connection between surname and religion-caste. What about Mishra vs. Misra; Pandey vs. Panday vs. Ponda vs. etc etc? Can u guys tell what relision are these surname(s) belongs to?

Next, how it sounds like some one call u "Miss Nancy" or "Miss Clarkson"......what about ...Dr. Nancy or Dr. Clarkson".....Dr. Das or Dr. Askok?

When "WE" or "You" people think about these small things......I guess "Its a nice way of choosing wasting our / u r time"...There are lot of other things in this world to do ...FOLKS.
I dont want to create enemey (ies) so, I dont want to argue but I dont accept this concept also.....

I personally think it is just the difference between conception and then it's perception. And off course, the concept stays the same but the perception varies from person to person. If truly caliber, attitude, aptitude, enthusiasm, hard work, innate potential, personality and conduct matters, then surname shouldn't really matter!!
It's sometimes easy to be different, but what matters eventually is WHERE?
And its important that this feeling grows, from the point of its conception and then I am sure the perception would be THE same, if not today but surely later.
ENCORE!!

I feel 'surname' is the first thing that helps in discrimination. I would like to share my experience in this regard. When an unknown person asks me "What your name?". I say "Ipsita". Then the next question is "What's your surname?" and I reluctantly answer to this question as I feel that the person wants to know my caste and religion. Even I belong to a Brahmin family, I do not like to mention it. I feel it's a good idea, not to add surname.

I think each person thinks his/her religion is good. Why to mention even the religion?? If we follow a good life style and we have our ethics with us, let our 'attitude' speak, not the 'surname'. We can not change people's behavior towards us but definitely we can change the way we respond to them. :)

You are right, we shouldn't impose it on someone (even our own kids). but,I beleive there is no harm in keeping sirnames, or religious sirnames even because what matters today is talent and calibre. If you have it, no body gonna stop you from doing anything. Case may be little different when the issue of minority comes, but there I beleive that the general social behavior/status/attitude of that particular community matters. I cann't put the examples here but I have some experiences where you really have to be careful and protective/defensive. So, in my view, letting down the caste system is fine but religion...no way it's gonna possible. And I don't want it either. Because I feel that my religion is little better than others. Now, I might be offending other religions but if you see all the things from the point of view of a 'human being' only, you will come to know the difference. Definitely we should carry our religion with us everywhere we go because it's not just the 'religion' but its a way of living, taking things into life, attitude for other religions......all these need to be there. I don't beleive that all religions are same or their philosophy is same. Sorry!!!
Instead, I would prefer to follow the rule of 'Youth for Equality' where you just compete and proceed! Only thing we need to do is try to provide equal opportunities to all which can come only by education and realisation of our responsibilities and duties (not just the rights). Hope it make sense!

Well, I am not saying we should not have respect for any religion. Here are the lines I have written in the pledge
"We can respect any or many religion according to our acceptability but Let's be no Theist or Atheist, just be ALTRUIST."
We can eliminate the surnames from the naming system to elimilate the social discriminations but still we can respect any religion. Let's make everybody to decide to which religion he should respect and follow. Let's not impose the religion or caste on anybody.
What do you say ?
